PS5 broken? We probably fix that here.
HDMI ports. Overheating. The dreaded 3-beep error. Completely dead boards. We do the four most common PS5 repairs in-house on our own workbench — no mail-outs, no middle-men, no quote-form theatre. Real prices below.

Most PS5 faults come down to four things.
The PlayStation 5 is a well-built machine, but it has four failure modes that come up again and again on our workbench. If your console is misbehaving, it's almost certainly one of these — and all four are fixable in-house, same day in most cases, for a fixed price that's written down on this page.
1. HDMI port failure
Symptom: No picture on the TV. Sometimes a flicker, sometimes nothing at all.
Cause: The HDMI port on a PS5 is soldered directly to the main board. A bent cable, a knock while plugged in, or a child tripping on the lead can shear the solder joints or physically break the port.
Fix: Micro-soldering. Port removed with hot air, board cleaned, new port reflowed, tested. Usually same-day if dropped off before 2pm.
2. Overheating / shutting off
Symptom: Console gets loud, then shuts off mid-game. Often worse in hot weather or under heavy load.
Cause: Two things at once. Dust packs the heat sink and PSU vents so airflow drops. And if the PS5 has been stood vertical for a year or two, the liquid metal on the APU has migrated downward, leaving bald spots on the chip where nothing is cooling it.
Fix: Full strip, deep clean, fresh liquid metal reapplied to the APU, reassemble, stress test.
3. "3 beeps, won't turn on"
Symptom: Plug the power cable in. Three beeps. Nothing else. The console never boots.
Cause: The PS5's internal error log is full. Usually caused by the console not being shut down properly — the mains cut mid-session, the cable yanked, or a power outage. Once the log fills, the system refuses to boot.
Fix: Solder fine wires to test points on the PS5 board, connect a UART diagnostic tool, read and clear the error logs. This is a rare skillset — almost no other repair shop in the region does it.
4. No power / completely dead
Symptom: Plug it in. Nothing. No lights, no fan, no beeps.
Cause: Either the internal power supply unit has failed, or there's a shorted capacitor somewhere on the main board drawing the rail down. Both are repairable at component level.
Fix: Thermal camera diagnosis to find the short, current injection to locate the fault, then PSU replacement or capacitor replacement as needed. This is board-level work so it's not always same-day.
The thing Sony doesn't talk about.
Definition: Liquid metal migration
Sony used liquid metal thermal interface material (TIM) on the PS5's main APU instead of traditional thermal paste. Liquid metal conducts heat far better than paste — but it's a liquid. On a PS5 that's been stood vertical for a year or more, gravity slowly pulls the metal downward across the chip surface, leaving bald spots where there's no longer any thermal contact between the APU and the heat sink.
Once that happens, the APU has patches with nothing cooling it. Temperatures spike. The console protects itself by throttling, getting loud, and eventually shutting off mid-game. No amount of dust-blowing fixes it — the fix is a full strip, clean off the old metal, and carefully reapply a fresh layer.
We see this on almost every PS5 that comes in for "overheating." If your console is more than two years old and it's been living vertical on a TV stand, it's almost certainly happening to yours right now — even if you haven't noticed the symptoms yet.
Real workshop, real tools, real engineer.
The reason we can fix things other repair shops can't is because we actually have the kit to diagnose what's wrong before we start swapping parts. Thermal cameras, microscopes, soldering stations, UART diagnostic tools, current injection. The equipment your average "console repair" drop-off counter simply doesn't have.

PS5 repair prices, written down.
Every other console repair shop in Southport hides their prices behind a quote form. We don't. Here's what PS5 repairs actually cost at our Gravel Lane workshop. No call-outs, no hidden fees, no diagnostic charge if we can't fix it.

All prices include parts, labour, and a 6-month warranty on the specific work carried out. PS4 repairs available at similar prices — call for a quote on PS4-specific jobs.
Most PS5 repairs done the same day.
If you drop your PS5 off before 2pm and the parts for your repair are in stock, you'll usually have it back the same evening. HDMI port replacements, deep cleans, and 3-beep UART fixes all fall into that bracket. Board-level no-power diagnosis can take up to 48 hours because we need bench time for thermal imaging and current injection work — but even those usually come back to you within 2 days.
Compare that to the typical Southport console repair route: drop it off at a retail counter, wait 5 to 7 working days while it's couriered to a warehouse somewhere else, pray nothing goes missing in transit, hope the quote comes back reasonable. We're not that. We're a workshop you can walk into where the person who diagnoses your console is the same person who fixes it and the same person who hands it back to you.
A real PS5 repair, in a real customer's words.
"Bought my PS5 to have a new HDMI port replaced. While they were doing that work they also sent me pictures of the liquid metal on the main chip that had bald spots on it and the console was quite dusty inside. So for a small extra fee they sorted out those problems as well. All of this within three hours of me dropping the console off. Already got it back home and the console's working fantastically. This is the best console repair centre in the area, would come back again."
This is why we show people what's actually going on inside their console. If we spot liquid metal damage or heat sink dust while we're fixing the thing you brought it in for, we tell you, send photos, and let you decide whether to fix it while it's already on the bench.
Not a PS5? We probably fix that too.
Our workshop handles every modern console that's worth repairing. If yours isn't a PS5, here's where to go next.

Questions we get asked about PS5 repairs.
How much does a PS5 HDMI port repair cost in Southport?
PS5 HDMI port replacement is £60. This is a fixed price — no quote forms, no hidden fees. The job is a micro-soldering repair done in-house on our workbench, typically same-day if dropped off before 2pm.
Why does my PS5 keep turning off when I play games?
The most common cause is overheating from two problems that get worse over time: dust clogging the heat sink and PSU vents, and liquid metal migration on the APU. PS5s left vertical for years are especially prone to liquid metal seeping down and leaving bald spots on the main chip, which causes dramatic temperature spikes under load. Our £40 deep clean strips the console, cleans the heat sink and PSU, and reapplies fresh liquid metal to the APU.
My PS5 makes 3 beeps and won't turn on. What's wrong?
Three beeps and no boot usually means the PS5's internal error log is full. This is most often caused by the console not being shut down properly — mains pulled mid-session, power cut, or the cable yanked. Once the error log fills up, the PS5 refuses to boot. The fix requires soldering to test points on the PS5 board and using a UART diagnostic tool to read and clear the error log. Very few repair shops can do this job. We can — £50 fixed price.
My PS5 is completely dead with no power. Can you fix it?
Yes. A fully dead PS5 is almost always one of two problems: a failed power supply unit, or a shorted capacitor somewhere on the main board. We diagnose using a thermal camera and current injection to find the short, then repair at component level. Price is £80 including diagnosis and fix. This is board-level work so it's not always same-day — usually back within 48 hours.
Do you offer a warranty on PS5 repairs?
Yes — every PS5 repair comes with a 6-month warranty covering the specific work we carried out. We don't offer 2-year warranties on soldered repairs because they're not realistic for component-level work; 6 months is what the repair actually is, and we stand behind it.
Do you work on PS4 as well as PS5?
Yes — we repair all PS4 models (original, Slim, Pro) as well as PS5. We don't work on PS3 or earlier PlayStation consoles because the cost of parts vs the value of the console means it's not economical for you to spend that money on hardware that old.
What if you diagnose my PS5 and decide it's not worth fixing?
No Fix No Fee. If we diagnose your PS5 and the repair isn't economical (for example, a catastrophic board failure that would cost more than the console is worth), you take it home at no charge. We diagnose first and only proceed once you've agreed to the price.
