Why drive 14 minutes from Burscough when there's phone shops in Ormskirk?
Most of the phone shops between Burscough and Ormskirk will take a PS5 in for screen-style cosmetic work, but the harder repairs — HDMI port micro-soldering, 3-beep UART fixes, board-level no-power diagnosis — they either won't touch or send away to a third party. Our Southport workshop does all of it in-house. 14 minutes for a same-day in-house fix beats 2-3 weeks of mail-out limbo.
Do you do PS5 disc drive replacement, or only board work?
Both. Disc drive failure on PS5s is increasingly common as the consoles age — grinding noises, no-eject, won't read game discs. We replace the entire drive assembly. Around £80 including the part. If you'd rather convert to a digital-only setup (cheaper) we can do that too, on certain disc-edition PS5s.
My PS5 turns on but the screen stays black — is that the HDMI port?
Almost certainly, yes. PS5 HDMI port failure usually presents as: console powers on (white light, fan running), but no picture on the TV regardless of which HDMI cable or port you try. The plastic insert inside the port has often pulled away from the board. We see this multiple times a week. £60 fixed, micro-soldering replacement, same-day if dropped off before 2pm.
